The market is readjusting to need exactly what your brain does well. You grew up hearing that your way of processing the world was a problem. That you got distracted too much, that you couldn’t sit still, that if you just paid more attention things would be easier. Maybe you tried. Maybe you still try. But there is news that probably didn’t reach you in time.

The dominant framework has been that of deficit. Neurodivergence —ADHD, autism, dyslexia— has been treated as a deviation from the norm that must be corrected, medicated, trained until the individual fits into an environment designed for a type of brain that is not their own.

That framework is cracking. Not because of activism. Because of efficiency.

The masking trap

There is a cost that few name because paying it has been normalized. Masking —the conscious effort to hide neurodivergent traits to fit into a neurotypical environment— consumes a massive amount of cognitive energy. It is not pretending. The advantage will not be making everyone think the same, but extracting value from ways of thinking that do not resemble each other.

The question I have not fully resolved is whether institutions will react in time or if, as always, it will be individuals who build their own solutions before the system validates them.

But that is also a form of advantage. Whoever learns to navigate without a map always arrives first where the map does not cover.
